The Uralla Tigers met with Tingha over the weekend and came out victorious 42-34 after what was, by all accounts, a very tight game.
The Tigers from out west led the competition heading into the current round and have now surrendered top spot.
Uralla stalwart Greg Jones said that the game was played out very closely in its opening stages.
“It was a very even competition during the first half.
“Both sides had scored the same tries,” he said.
As half time came the score sat at 14-18 in favour of Tingha. But with a little application and effort from the Tigers the advantage was turned around.
The Tigers dominated much of the second half.
“Uralla got away to a pretty handy lead early in the second half.
“They probably led 42-18 then Tingha came back and scored a couple of tries late in the game to take the score up to the final score,” Jones said.
Standouts for Uralla were Daniel Poss who played well in the backs, while Fred Waters had a good match and scored three tries while Pat Heagney scored two tries on the wing.
Justin Fox and Clarrie Moran were also listed as scoring for the game while Will Cohen and Cam Mundy kicked goals for the match.
Injuries for the match were kept to a minimum with only Josh Dunne experiencing a little grief with his shoulder.
Next week will see Uralla welcoming the Armidale Rams for a home game.
“We’re expecting a big crowd for that game,” Jones said.
