A DEDICATED group of Armidale residents will be braving the cool weather on Sunday for National Tree Day.
From 9am onwards members of the Armidale River Care Group will clear a section of Dumaresq Creek adjacent to Elizabeth Park (Jack Vallance Oval), and they could always do with more numbers to lend a hand.
When the clearing is complete they will plant 300 native trees along the creek bank.
Group spokesperson and deputy mayor Bruce Whan said they are on the lookout for more people to help out on the day.
“We are inviting anyone from the public who wants to turn up,” Cr Whan said.
“We ask them to bring along their own personal protection gear: hat, gloves, sturdy shoes and a long sleeved shirt.
“If they have a wheelbarrow, that would also be useful.”
Helpers will receive a free cup of tea.
The group has worked with a number of local schools and businesses to clean up other areas of Dumaresq Creek.
“We worked with PLC students and members of the public to clean up the section of the creek behind St Peter’s Pre-School, and we worked with some of the Coles staff at Rologas Fields,” Cr Whan said.
“We also planted 350 trees along the Douglas St section of the creek.”
